Healthy Habits to Add to a Morning Ritual

Those that are conscious about eating clean and whole foods (such as the ones served at Koibito Poke, for example) are often health-conscious in many other ways too. One of the most common things that health-minded people do it start their day with a morning ritual. While each individual’s morning ritual is as unique as they are, Koibito Poke suggests some popular methods to add to a vibrant morning ritual.

Rise with the Sun —  There is growing evidence that watching the sun rise in the morning with naked eyes (no contacts or glasses) can heal the eyes and the body in general. Start by looking in the direction of the rising sun (not directly into it) for about 30 seconds at a time and then build from there.

Give Thanks — Showing gratitude is one of the best ways to feel happier and more positive. Start each day by giving thanks for the things in life — even the seemingly smallest things or the ones that are easier forgotten or taken for granted such as a roof over one’s head and a secure job.

Meditate — Just a little research into the benefits of mediation is encouraging enough to start adding this practice to a solid morning ritual. According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, meditation and mindfulness practices “may have a variety of health benefits and may help people improve the quality of their lives.” Some research points to meditation and mindfulness practices to help with stress, anxiety, depression, sleep quality, pain and more. Interested in starting a daily meditation? Simply sit in a comfortable position in a quiet space, close the eyes, notice the body and breath, stay focused when the mind begins to wander. Start with a few minutes at a time and build from there.

Move it — Health conscious people know that health comes down to what goes into the body and what kind of movement the body does. Exercise and diet are key to a healthy lifestyle. But exercise doesn’t have to equate to a hard-core HIIT class. Simply taking a brisk 30-minute walk around the neighborhood most days of the week is an excellent habit to add to a morning ritual.

When starting the day with a morning ritual, all else that comes after seems to flow a little easier. Whether it is the structure of a routine or the power or each of the components combined, many healthy and happy people credit a daily ritual for that health and happiness. Seeking nutritious, wholesome meals as part of a daily ritual is a great way to start a healthy eating routine that can supplement and support the morning routine.
