Alternative Workouts that Don’t Require a Gym

lifestyle

When Governor Ducey recently reclosed gyms, the mandate left many without access to their usual workout routine. However, even gym lovers can get great exercise outside the gym. Ever-focused on health, Koibito Poke offers a variety of ways that locals can get a great workout without stepping foot in the gym.

Take an Early (or Evening) Hike

The Valley is rife with gorgeous trails ideal for biking and hiking. Why not hit the trail early to catch the sunrise or, after a full day, enjoy an evening hike as the sun goes down. A peaceful hike can be a great way to start, or finish, any day. Just remember to stay hydrated!

Paddle it Out

Who says Arizona’s not for water sports? Even the area’s urban lakes have opportunities to make a “splash” when working out by renting stand up paddle boards (great for core stability!) or kayaks (work those arms!). Bonus — dive in and cool down after a good sweat session on the water! Check local lakes’ websites prior to visiting to ensure their rental facilities are open.

Do Yoga in the Rainforest…or with a Goat

While mainstream gyms are closed, think outside the box for a workout! Attractions such as Butterfly Wonderland in Scottsdale offer limited capacity social distanced classes in their butterfly sanctuary filled with thousands of butterflies and Arizona Goat Yoga offers participants a chance to practice yoga in a giant grassy field with goats — who are often dressed up to match various class themes!

Take to Zoom

Many gyms that are closed are getting creative to stay connected to their members and keep them motivated. Some offer Zoom classes for their members for example. But even if that’s not the case, a quick YouTube search for virtual/live fitness classes will result in a variety of options for nearly any type of workout.

Keep it Simple

Getting fit doesn’t require much — aside from commitment. Instead of relying on gym equipment for an intense workout, workout junkies can enlist a friend for motivation, buddy up to do some weight lifting sessions, or use the body as resistance — think of a simple plank that works the entire body without any fancy machines, equipment or weights at all — just sheer grit and dedication.

For card-carrying members that are missing their gyms right now, Koibito offers a little comfort — in the form of a healthy and delicious poke bowl! Through Monday, July 27 guests can receive 15 percent off dine-in and in-store to-orders when they show their gym membership card. So take a little weight off the wallet this summer and let Koibito Poke provide a light, nourishing and delicious meal.
